Dr. Johnston, the front desk, and the vet techs took wonderful care of our pup! He got a GI blockage and was very well taken care of! Staff was very polite, professional, knowledgeable, and communicative. I know he was in competent and caring hands. Thank you, Mountain West team!! We are so grateful for your help and expertise. We are so happy to have him home!
This is a bit of a long one, but I’ll try to get as many details as I can without being too long. I want to preface this with I do not trust emergency pet care. A few years ago, I had to take my friends cat to an emergency vet in the Midvale area. She was pregnant and the kittens had died, but she couldn’t birth them so she was septic. They told us that we either needed to pay $4000 or the cat would die and it would be our fault. We left with the cat and drove her to a vet in Idaho where they managed to save her life and it was only $400. Thanks to that emergency vet, I don’t trust the service in general. Fast forward to this last Thursday night. Our 1 year old Frenchton ingested a gram of marijuana. My husband has a med card and it was one of his cartridges. We aren’t certain how she got it, and she didn’t eat the battery which was a good thing. Still, at 4 in the morning on Friday my husband called Mountain West and while on the phone, our little girl threw up a pile the size of her head. They said to bring her in, so we did. After the previous experience and reading some reviews, I was terrified. I was more terrified of losing my baby. The staff was really compassionate and understanding, and when it came down to it the pricing was actually not nearly what I thought it would be. We took the vets recommendation to hospitalize our baby and left at 5:30 in the morning, hoping everything would be okay and we’d made the right decision. We were told no news was good news. Later that morning, we got a call from Buffy to give us an update. Our little Wynne girl was doing fine, and we could see her but they did want to keep her over night for observation. My husband went to see her and then we got a call saying we could actually bring her home that evening as she was doing better than they originally thought. We also got a refund of some of the deposit we paid. All in all, this was a vastly different experience and I’m extremely grateful to the staff at Mountain West. Thanks to them, this traumatizing accident didn’t ruin our holidays and we got the best Christmas gift of all. More time to spend with our sweet, loving little Wynne. Thank you so much to Buffy and the rest of the staff that worked to save or little love bug! And thank you for showing a jaded individual that no two places are alike. If ever we need emergency pet care again, I know where we will be going.
So lucky to have access to such an amazing ER! Every staff member, doctor, and tech, are kind and have helped my sweet animals in many different situations. The communication is great, and I trust them completely. We have been unfortunate to have several emergencies over the past 2 years, but so fortunate for Dr Simmons, Dr Kara and their teams, for their knowledge and helping me make the best decisions for my animals. Thank you Mountain West
We’ve had to use the emergency room on more than one occasion and every time, we were greeted with kindness. We had to put our good boy, Red (our Redbone Hound) down in the middle of the night on a holiday. The staff couldn’t have been kinder.
Of course they charge you for their services. They are upfront with the costs.
On a lighter note, the Cat Distribution System issued us a kitten a couple months ago. We’re taking her here to get her spayed.
I took my puppy Sylvie in a couple weeks ago and while I wish I didn't have to, I'm glad they were there to take care of her!
My wife and I got a puppy and then a couple days later, she started throwing up and we couldn't figure out why. At around 3am, she threw up again and we decided to take her in because we were afraid she might have gotten into something. After hours they're curbside only so they took her in and we waited. They told us that she seemed fine but they wanted to do an x-ray just to be sure and, unfortunately, there was a small metal object in her stomach that looked like a sewing needle. The doctor wouldn't come in until 8am so we went home and waited.
They called us a few hours later and the doctor said that he would take another x-ray and the object looked less like a sewing needle, so he thought it should be fine to pass.
A few days later, she started throwing up again and the object hadn't passed and the x-ray showed it was still in the stomach and the doctor said that the best bet would be to do an endoscopy, even though it was risky for puppies.
They kept her for a day and did the endoscopy and managed to get the item out with no other issues. They gave us some medicine to make her feel better after the anesthesia and to help soothe her throat.
While I wish we could have done the endoscopy first, I don't blame them for thinking it would pass. They absolutely took care of her and their regular calls gave us some peace of mind while we waited for her to be ready to come home.
Now, a couple weeks later, little Sylvie is doing great and recovered perfectly! So thanks to Mountain West Veterinary Specialists for taking care of our puppy!
I included a picture of the object, as well as the puppy when she was upset that we left her for so long.
Mountain West not only saved my dog from a blood disease known as IMHA, but treated me with outstanding kindness and understanding. Every single person I came in contact with, was amazing. From the customer service rep that greeted us, to the techs. and the emergency doctors. The Internal medicine specialist saw us today to develop an ongoing plan for my girl. She was so easy to talk to, and so knowledgeable about the disease. I feel like we're in amazing hands. I've worked in Veterinary medicine for over 40 years, and I knew when I walked into this hospital that Clara would be with the absolute best possible people.
I can't say enough good about this place, and I know vet hospitals!
The vets care and are extremely understanding and helpful. They did absolutely everything in their power to save my boy because they knew I wanted to be able to say I did everything I could. Unfortunately he wasn't able to be saved but if it wasn't for the magnificent support of MANY of their staff members I wouldn't have had the last 2 weeks I got with him and I wouldn't have been able to spend his last night cuddling and loving him like there was nothing wrong in the world.
After going through 3 emergency visits in 5 days, I am blown away by the professionalism and kindness of every vet and staff member that worked with us. This was a terrifying time, and we knew our sweet dog was in the best hands possible. Our dog was diagnosed with a chronic disease, and will continue being seen by the internal medicine specialist here, who is also amazing. This hospital saved my dog's life, and we can rest easy knowing we have a place we trust in case we ever have another emergency. Thank you!
